Pretty Green Colors for MGM Resorts

No, MGM is not changing their corporate colors (do they have any?), but Newsweek rated MGM Resorts International among the magazine's 500 most environmentally responsible companies in the United States for the second consecutive year. MGM moved up from number 174 overall to number 157 in this year's ranking.

Going green is nearly a lost cause with some casino companies while others have thrived with the idea of reducing their carbon footprint on our own Mother Earth. The MGM is ranked as the third highest hotel company on the list and the highest ranking company in the casino resort industry.

Because the MGM owns and operates 15 casinos in the US including Bellagio, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay and The Mirage, their willingness to become more environmentally sound, safe and sane, is important to all of us; especially those who visit casinos and enjoy the gaming atmosphere.

I've watched as cocktail servers at other properties round-up both glass and plastic bottles for general disposal, always wondering why an important step like recycling isn't implemented. Aluminum soda cans are another concern.

Did you know that recycling a single soda can saves enough energy to run your desktop computer for three hours? It's true, and that compares to about one hour of in-casino slot machine play because it requires roughly 7.5 kilowatt hours for each pound of virgin aluminum to be produced, but only 5 percent of that energy need to recycle the aluminum.

So, go MGM!, and any other casinos that allow us casino gamblers to see our consumed products recycled at your properties!
